Get In The Game
Jonathan said to his armor bearer, “Come on now, let’s go across to these uncircumcised pagans. Perhaps God will work for us. There’s no rule that says God can only deliver by using a big army. No one can stop God from saving when he sets his mind to it.”
1 Samuel 14:6
Jonathan faced insurmountable odds, yet was willing to face the adversity of the challenge. Sports challenge us to face the internal fears of competition, and the outward adversity of opposition draws out a deep river of spiritual adrenaline that translates into other arenas of our lives.
It’s time to get in the game. Pick a sport. It may be joining a softball team, basketball team, taking up golf, whatever you choose. Just get in the game!
“Sports remain a great metaphor for life’s more difficult lessons. It was through athletics that many of us first came to understand that fear can be tamed; that on a team the whole is more than the sum of its parts; and that the ability to be heroic lies, to a surprising degree, within.” – S. Casey
